Le Floch Dépollution: 50 years of expertise in environmental protection
Born on the Britanny coastline in France and forged by major oil spills, Le Floch Dépollution is today one of the historical and leading players in maritime, industrial, and urban pollution control.
With over 50 years of experience, the company operates in France and internationally to meet the most demanding environmental challenges.
A history born from major oil spills
The story begins in 1967, following the Torrey Canyon shipwreck. At the time, Le Floch was a distributor of pumps, high-pressure cleaners, and automotive spare parts.
Faced with the scale of this unprecedented disaster, a strong Breton mobilisation was organised to pump oil and clean the coast using available resources. Le Floch immediately deployed all its equipment to participate in cleaning the affected coastline.
The Torrey Canyon was not just an isolated incident, it marked the beginning of a long series of oil spills, unfortunately mostly in Brittany (Amoco Cadiz in 1978 and Tanio in 1980), but also around the world.
Each time, Le Floch engaged in the cleanup operations, developing rare experience and expertise in this field.
1998: Creation of Le Floch Dépollution
In the 1990s, incidents multiplied, and in 1998 the “pollution control” activity was structured into an independent entity: Le Floch Dépollution, which immediately intervened in two major oil spills: Erika in 1999 and Prestige in 2002.
These large-scale operations helped establish Le Floch Dépollution as a world reference in maritime pollution control.
Gradual diversification to become a key environmental player
Aware that oil spills are fortunately rare events, the company broadened its skills and developed other expertise to become a global pollution control operator, notably with the arrival in the 2000s of our current CEO, Mr. Vanbaelinghem, who enabled the company to develop new capabilities in soil remediation, oily sludge treatment, and leachate management.
