Our projects
From May 2023 to March 2025, Le Floch Dépollution held a contract awarded by the Prefecture of Guadeloupe for the supply, installation, and maintenance of over 3,000 meters of deflection barriers, in partnership with the local company Amaya.
This contract was experimental in nature, involving the deployment of various types of barriers to monitor their performance and evaluate the effectiveness of each model used.
🌪️ During these two years, the system was notably tested under extreme conditions, such as the passage of Hurricane Tammy, providing valuable insights into the resilience and adaptability of the solutions implemented.
➡️ This technical system, designed to adapt to local maritime conditions, effectively diverts sargassum flows toward collection areas, limiting their impact on the coastline.
🔎 The barriers used in “diverting” mode do not constitute a standalone solution, but are part of a broader management strategy that requires a combination of measures to be effective (diversion/protection, collection, recovery, etc.).
⚠️ The effectiveness of such a system directly depends on proper maintenance (regular cleaning, anchor inspections, rope replacement, etc.). Without this, the barriers can deteriorate (increased biofouling, overloading, abnormal tension, accelerated wear of connections, etc.), potentially leading to failure.
📆 Our contract concluded on March 31, 2025. The French Government now ensures ongoing maintenance, thereby guaranteeing the continued proper functioning of the system.
🙏 We would like to sincerely thank the Prefecture of Guadeloupe, the City of Petit-Bourg, and the Direction de la Mer de Guadeloupe. Our regular exchanges have enabled significant progress in understanding and operational management of such a system.
